Take one of the most dominant UFC betting champions in the history of the sport, place him in an octagon set in his hometown in front of thousands of friends, fans, and family, and pin him against an opponent that has never been successful against the top fighters that he has faced. That is the scenario that is set for UFC 134, which will feature UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva against No. 1 contender Yushin Okami, at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Silva will look to extend the sports betting record for most consecutive wins and most consecutive title defenses, which stand at 13 and eight respectively. None of the opponents that the Spider has faced have managed to account for all of the styles that he is versed in, and even when it seems like an opponent has control it is only a matter of time before he makes them pay. Okami comes into this fight with some good experience under his belt, and president Dana White has done an excellent job of hyping him up even if it may be somewhat misplaced. But none of the opponents that Okami has beaten in the UFC are considered among the top caliber in the division, and the fact remains that he has struggled against some of the bigger contenders with losses to both Chael Sonnen and Rich Franklin. The stage is set for Silva to take what he feels belongs to him, and all that may stand in his way now is time.
