This weekend, sports fans have a myopic focus – only one question concerns those whose passions rise and fall with their sporting heroes: Is Couture going to force the antidote to hang up the hammer house shoes for good?
Wait, what?
Believe it or not, there are other sporting events going on this weekend, including a fight many have dubbed as “The Geezers at Ceasars” where 47 year old Randy Couture will face 45 year old Mark Coleman at UFC 109 in Las Vegas. If the prospect of seeing two men your father’s age beating each other up for fifteen minutes doesn’t appeal to you, don’t worry – there’s a game on Sunday, and it looks like it will be a fun one.
Peyton Manning and the Colts – overwhelming favorites according to the Super Bowl betting line, look to capture another title for their mantle and dash the hopes of the team that have provided the most heartwarming comeback story this season. Unfortunately for fans hoping the sentimental Saints will be able to pull of the unthinkable, it looks like Indianapolis has this on lock. While New Orleans are known for their takeaways, it would take a real breakdown on the part of the Colts’ to let the Saints gain too much footing. While many expect New Orleans to focus on the pass game, look for Indianapolis to run roughshod over the outmatched defense of the Saints, rough up QB Drew Brees, and turn an initial close contest into a decisive win, probably by at least a touchdown.
New Orleans simply does not have the defense to stop Peyton Manning, which will ultimately determine the outcome of this game. Regardless of how it unfolds on Sunday, New Orleans can be proud of their franchise this year, and it looks like their players will be rewarded: expect Brees’ efforts this season to be rewarded with a contract extension and a much-deserved salary bump.
